Shanghai, November (2)

The England Pavilion is located in the centre of noise at Shanghai Expo, which has the record breaking number of visitors in the history of Expo. The ground is ramped to create the pavilion as a centre and make the background less visible. There is comfort by turning our faces away from the hustle and bustle. It feels similar to being at home during a sunny day when we have cold, something like being outside of various activities. This is different sort of comfort from Piazza del Campo, although both of those are composed of slopes.

上海万博の敷地内にある英国パヴィリオン。万博史上最多入場者数を更新する喧騒の中、刺激的な建築を中心に配置し、地面には傾斜をつけ、周囲に背を向け敷地内で完結する空間を作り上げる。ここには喧騒を背にすることで得られる心地よさがある。それは、風邪をひいた時に昼間に家にいるような、いろいろな活動の外側にいる感覚に近い。同じく傾斜のついたカンポ広場とは別の要素がこの場の心地よさを形成している。
