Beijing has been suffered from perpetual traffic congestion. In this city, the main aim of urban design is to solve problems such as atmospheric pollution and gridlock, rather than to make a beautiful city. Although this junction is purely made as a tool to mitigate traffic jams, it is also blessed with certain beauty when we look down. There is a form, but it is not a space. It feels that something is missing if we look the city only by its form. Nevertheless, it is definitely beautiful. I am looking for somewhere to compromise this conflicting feeling.
慢性的に渋滞が発生している北京における都市の問題とは、美しい街並みをいかに保存するか/つくるかではなく、大気汚染や交通問題が主題とされ、「解決」のために計画が進んでいく。このジャンクションも明確な交通問題を解決/防止するために計画されただけにもかかわらず、俯瞰した際の美しさを併せ持つ。しかしそこには形態はあれど空間はない。都市にむかう視座は形態だけでは物足りない。しかし美しい。この矛盾する感覚の着地点を探している。
