芝生のある広い場所が公園かというと、そうではないだろう。何も遮るものがなく、どこまでも見渡せるような状況では、人は寛ぐことができないからだ。公園というのは基本的に都会に挿入される自然の一部であり、喧騒を逃れる安らぎの場であるはずだ。ロンドンの公園では、ほぼ必ず街との隔絶を示す並木が敷地周囲をめぐっている。ということで、ここは公園ではないのだろうが、では果たして何なのだろうか。

It seems that park does not mean just a vast land with grass. If there is nothing to block off views, we cannot relax. In general, park should be a small element of nature inserted in the urban area. Thus it has to be a place of tranquillity where we can escape from noisy urban life. In London, most parks have rows of trees along their sites which show separation from the cities. This will not be called park. Then, what is this?
